Experience
Nov. 96 – Present Independent Computer Consultant (Specific Projects Follow)
Over the last several years I have primarily been focused on the Role of Technical Architect / Project Manager. Depending on specific circumstances, an in depth analysis of the current system (and feasibility study of proposed project) occurs (potentially as part of the sales cycle). Recommendations and strategies are drafted which use well established data architectural guidelines and object and pattern oriented design principals. Use cases, milestones, resource allocation and costs are identified and compiled into various proposals that include Project Assessment, Software Development plan, and Application Architecture documents. Concepts are then presented to peers and team members for review and finally to executives for approval. Agile Approach is utilized during project implementation to maximize team productivity, mitigate risk and engage end users. Guidance is then provided to team from inception of project to implementation. Technologies and specific situations follow in the individual project sections below.

VB.Net Architect of SSL intranet application designed to calculate various taxes and surcharges associated with multi jurisdictional telecommunication products and services. Appropriate charges were identified, summarized and remitted based on monthly data feeds provided by CCH (into Oracle and SQL databases). The custom taxing functionality was also designed to run within SAP’s environment through SAP’s .Net Connector (via Proxy). Extensive coordination with Networking and SAP personnel (based in South Africa) to design object structure (with multiple interfaces) and networking logistics to successfully implement solution. Custom Crystal Reports were created to ensure proper audit documentation and to prevent imbalances between systems.

Twenty member team developed application to support a thousand concurrent users on load balanced Sql Server (using Entity-Relationship model) and IIS machines. Portal application designed to manage life cycle of a Press Releases and monitor their audience and affect throughout the world. Intensive usage of recent Microsoft technologies including Team Foundation Server, Cruise Control, Master Pages, Site Maps, Client Callbacks, AJAX, JavaScript, XML Web Services, Web Controls and Asynchronous Calls.
Nov. 05 – Jul. 06 Kraft
ASP.Net Architect of the Commodity Tracking System. Creation of dynamic Kraft purchasing group where data could be dynamically allocated to other Kraft groups for reporting and analysis purposes. Converted project team from the waterfall model to Unified Process style to better facilitate development efficiency. Created Web Service proxy to receive daily stock quotes in batch mode or on demand. Modified application functionality through vb.net (Object Oriented Design and custom controls), Sql Server stored procedures (deeply embedded), and Crystal Reports (Enterprise Server) while formally documenting and strictly adhering to existing design principles. Successfully rolled out required and optional changes within budget.
Jan. 04 – Aug. 04 Preston Enterprise
Project Manager of a Web application development team that designed an application to track sales leads from inception to sale, provide employee performance analysis, weekly work schedules, billing/bonus guide and to allow client access to review schedule and leads remotely. Managed project using MS Project and followed iterative development process. Full life cycle including feasibility study, budgeting, requirements analysis, creation of use cases, architectural, database and object design, implementation, testing, and roll out. ASP.Net application using C# with SQL Server database. Software was successfully finished ahead of schedule and within budget.
Jan. 03 – Nov. 03 Siemens Building Technologies
Enterprise VB.Net developer of Great Plains/ Service Management System (Sql Server based) and its supplemental proprietary scheduling and reporting application. Extensive migration of data and application customizations to the latest version of Great Plaines were successfully rolled out (and integrated with other Enterprise wide systems). Process includes identifying undocumented customizations (VBA Code, Custom Fields, Stored Procedures, or Triggers), determining ramification of changes, determining if changes are already implemented in latest version, implementing changes (if necessary), and testing that the customizations have not altered any of the new versions functionality. Latest version introduced and refined will save countless hours and cost in 60 branch offices throughout North America.
Apr. 02 – Oct. 02 International Truck and Engine
Enterprise Visual Basic developer of an Ordering Processing System designed to allow for the proper customization of a truck. Developed component that compares vehicle performance based on the selection of various truck parts prior to committing to any one. Extensive object manipulation using existing interface to generate desired information. Highly structured object oriented design approach used to facilitate large development teams concurrent modifications and in preparation for XML and VB.Net. Dynamic data driven approach used due to multifaceted validation design and enhancement release schedule. Heavy data interplay between DB2 and potentially disconnect local Access database. Application changes were put into pilot on time and accepted as developed.
Jul. 01 – Dec. 01 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois
SQL Server/Access developer coordinating the integration of multiple Access databases into one consolidated SQL Server database with an Access front end. Application is designed to run from remote locations so that the Actuarial department may track details needed to underwrite insurance policies. Bound and unbound data forms are used throughout the entire application. Modified forms to provide greater functionality, consistency and ease of use. Optimized SQL statements (Access queries, pass through queries, stored procedures, triggers, views where appropriate) and VB code for faster execution speed. Several dynamic Crystal Reports were created to allow many different logical presentations of information. Automation of manual upload process and data migration script into Data Transformation Service packages.
