Within State Street, Alternative Investment Solutions (AIS) consists of three lines of business (International Fund Services, Private Equity, and Offshore). As the divisional Information Security Officer (ISO) for AIS I am responsible for all risk, regulatory, compliance, and audit related activity as it relates to information security and the associated technology and operational business processes. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Risk evaluation as it relates to new and existing regulatory and compliance requirements; keeping senior management informed and recommending mitigation methodology for perceived or apparent risks.
  • Coordination of all audits (i.e. Sarbanes-Oxley, SAS 70, client, and internal corporate), preparation of IT control documentation, and acting as the liaison between auditors and internal staff.
  • Management of the selection, deployment, and implementation of business process management, email encryption, database security, and data leakage protection technology solutions.
  • Management of the development of compliance and audit related software applications (i.e. application change control, user access requests, access review and recertification, non-application change control).
  • Management of the effort to apply encryption technology to communication with our clients and their associated correspondents (i.e. prime brokers, trading counterparties, vendors).

As part of the deployment of the IDX-PRISM Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system I assisted the medical staff in selecting appropriate mobile wireless computer technology for use with the new system. In addition I provided classroom training on the new system to all levels of staff and managed the team that provided direct support to the staff onsite at various Continuum medical facilities.

Chase Manhattan Bank - Private Bank/Global Mutual Funds Group
Business Analyst - Project Lead


For a project to customize and deploy a 3rd party mutual fund database application (FundStation) used for the collection of pricing data, the calculation of performance figures, and the production and distribution of customized reports, I was the Project Lead and primary Business analyst. My responsibilities included:

  • Requirements gathering including analysis of the base capabilities of FundStation to determine the necessary level of customization.
  • Liaison between senior management and the widely distributed project team including coordination of communication and periodic status reports.
  • Managed the development of a data feed from the Fund Accounting mainframe system to FundStation as well as a backup database and a contingency reporting solution in the event of a failure of the primary application.
  • Managed the development of a Lotus Notes database and an associated Domino server Web site for the internal and external distribution of the reports produced by FundStation.
  • Managed the evaluation, acquisition, and deployment of an automated testing system as well as the Y2K and ongoing regression testing efforts.
  • Managed the importation (into FundStation) and verification of legacy fund data to allow historical reporting from fund inception.
  • Produced documentation and conducted training for all phases of the project, and served as general technical advisor throughout the project.

As part of a PeopleSoft implementation, I developed an intermediate database application to import, format, and verify existing data from a mainframe system and export the data to PeopleSoft. In addition I developed an online travel expense form to replace the existing paper based version that did all calculations, checks and verifications automatically and then exported the data to PeopleSoft.

As part of a real estate property management system development project, I developed an intermediate database application to replace the existing paper based system and track property management issues such as rent collection, supply orders, and repair request and status. This included requirements gathering, QA testing, the production of documentation, and staff training.

For a project to develop a mainframe based foreign exchange trading application used for trade settlement and portfolio position reporting, I had overall responsibility for the QA testing including bug reporting and acting as liaison between end-users (FX traders) and the development team.

To resolve conflicts between various mainframe systems regarding employee 401(k) loan balance data, I researched supporting account paperwork to determine to correct outstanding balances and designed procedures for data collection and database replication to prevent a reoccurrence of this issue.

In support of a project to develop a database to track and report on market data use (and the associated billing) by traders and analysts, I gathered requirements from end-users and worked with market data vendors to customize billing feeds for the new system.
