Established a vast network of smart card suppliers and related consultants.
Designed and developed CardWerk Website, a site focused on smart card technology currently attracting thousands of visitors every month. Created an automated Smart Card personalization and encoding station. Consulted within healthcare, financial and commercial projects.
Provided 2nd and 3rd level technical support, for leading smart card reader manufacturer. Introduced smart card and biometric products to leading systems integrators and prime contractors.
Reviewed smart card project description and assisted with proposal for smart card chip manufacturer. Analyzed competitive solutions and identified advantages of a system with multi-application smart cards.
Evaluated leading solutions for logical access control, mostly based on PKI cards. Established a network of product and solution providers to provide extensive consulting services.
IT/Technical Support Manager 1995 - 2001
Marx Software Security (Atlanta, GA)
Re-engineered software developers kit (SDK) for CRYPTO-BOX, a cryptographic license control device. Designed and developed sample programs, OS-sensitive device driver setups. Introduced and designed automated system testing tools. The SDK improvements dropped technical support calls by 80%, made error tracking faster, and improved the overall quality of the product.
Initiated and implemented electronic marketing strategy. Designed and implemented two company Websites, applied search engine positioning techniques and introduced automated email. The Website generated 99% of all new leads. Reduced printed advertisement by 95%.
Initiated, designed, and directed the development of the first smart card-based software copy protection SDK on the U.S. market. The API design was based on a security hardware abstraction layer with data objects on the smart card. Clients were able to migrate from proprietary tokens to smart cards by changing only a few lines of code. This reduced in-house application development cost by more than 70%.Directed custom development projects from requirement definition, proposal, specifications and technical planning through diagnostic testing. Managed the implementation using two offshore software development teams. Projects were on-time and on-budget. Development cost was drastically reduced in a time when hourly rates had skyrocketed.
Defined and specified a wrapper engine used to inject code into an existing software program and install a cryptographic envelope such that the protected software would only run with a matching hardware token or smart card attached to the computer. The wrapper software reduced smart card integration time from several days to several minutes.
Technical Manager 1994 - 1995
Cypto-Box Sarl. (Strasbourg, France)
Opened of a new subsidiary for Marx in France and selected personnel. Installed and maintained a Novell network with Windows clients, business and production software. Assisted with the integration of hardware tokens into DOS, Windows and Unix programs. Solved driver installation and API related problems. Created sample programs in C/C++, Clipper, Basic, Delphi, Visual Basic running under DOS and Windows. The sample programs demonstrated authentication and encryption techniques for secure integration of hardware tokens to prevent software piracy.
Scientific Assistant 1987 - 1993
FHG Institute for Biomedical Engineering - Department for Ultrasonic Measurement Systems (Germany)
Designed and developed sensors for a blood flow measurement system. The system included PC expansion boards, mixed analog/digital circuits and control software. The work led to a $1 million grant for the next phase of research.
Member of an 8-person research and development team credited with the design and implementation of a prototype of a ultrasonic system to measure the fat-to-meat ratio of pork. Designed printed circuit boards, electronic circuits, assembled printed circuit boards and performed quality control.
